Track the northern lights across Yellowknife with an Indigenous-owned small-group tour, hotel pickup, hot drinks, snacks, and flexible aurora hunting.

“This was by far the best Aurora tour I took in Yellowknife! Joe has a passion for the aurora and local indingeous culture. He makes sure to get everyone included in the action and also takes several professional quality photos of each guest! The best part is that you’re hunting for the aurora instead of just sitting in a cabin while your tour guides watch videos. He’s on the bus with you talking about why and where the northern light happen.”

“The best aurora hunting tour in Yellowknife. Plus, I have got to see many fallen stars with long aurora in the dark sky while it was snowing in yellowknife downtown, The Guide, Julien, is passionate in finding an aurora and he did again. we saw a long wide red aurora during our tour. Recommend this tour with Julien! While I wasted one night with another company (northern light adventure which I chose because it had a better google review) That team drove in routine without any efforts and of course 8 people sat down in a van and just watched snow falling. very disappointing.”

4.Guided Snowmobile Adventure

★★★★★★★★★★5.0 · 296 reviews · 2 hours (approx.) · from $120

Ride frozen lakes and forest trails outside Yellowknife on a beginner-friendly snowmobile tour with heated gear and hotel pickup.

“As someone with no prior snowmobiling experience, I found this tour to be exceptionally well suited for beginners. Leon began the experience with a thorough 20-minute introduction, clearly explaining how to operate the snowmobile and what to expect throughout the tour. Once we were on the trails, he stopped frequently to ensure everyone was comfortable and safe, and to check if anyone needed assistance. Because of these regular check-ins, help was always available immediately if any issues arose. I truly enjoyed the tour and would highly recommend it to anyone new to snowmobiling—it is much easier than it looks!”

“We were very lucky as the night we went we had the best experience with the Aurora. Be prepared, it’s very cold out there but there’s a lovely warm cabin to hide in lol. The organizer was lovely, provided hot soup and bannock and lots of hot drinks as needed. Would highly recommend this tour, well organized and they take lots of photos of you too, which they share before you leave. We loved our time out in the wilds, viewing the aurora. Thank you”

“Very friendly and knowledgable guide. We were able to see the lights even on a fully moonlit night. Great to have a warm van to retreat to when it got a little too cold. I really like how the photos are included - I’ve been on other tours where they try and upsell these for an extortionate price. Would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Yellowknife in the hope of seeing the lights. As long as the skies are clear, you should have a decent chance.”

“Tour operator did not show up, then contacted us an hour later to say there was a mixup in the tour. No communication beforehand. Also they stated the tour minimum was 4. All of that should have been discussed and communicated the day before. Be careful of all Yellowknife tours, this week we are 2 out of 3 for no show operators!!!! We were promised a refund we will see how that goes.”

“This was a very unique and "interesting" experience. It was a full day tour of Yellowknife and we also went to Cameron Falls. This was not on the official itinerary that was advertised but it was beautiful and so fun. I certainly didn't expect to go hiking to a frozen waterfall in -20 degree weather. In the evening, the driver and tour guide came to pick us up for part 2 of the tour - aurora chasing. Unfortunately, the weather was too cloudy and we didn't see the northern lights. For everything that you're getting, it's really good value for money. However, expect bad customer service. I didn't get proper…”
